Set in the wonderfully restored Lady Victoria Colliery in Newtongrange, just off the A7, this five star visitor attraction houses the story of coal for Scotland. Visitors can discover the miners’ way of life through exhibitions (with fun family backpack activities for kids!), interactives, film theatres, Magic Helmet tour of the pithead, recreated underground and coalface and the BIG STUFF – Massive Mining Machinery tour. Marvel at the sheer size of the place, be astounded by the engineering brilliance behind all the machinery and retrace the footsteps and struggles of the thousands of miners and their families before them.
Relax in the coffee shop which serves hot and cold snacks, while the children use the play area and don’t miss a look around the museum’s superbly stocked Gift Shop. The museum offers free car parking and is fully wheelchair accessible.
