Scottish Mining Museum
Directions
From Edinburgh: Going south follow signs from city bypass to the A7. The Scottish Mining Museum is signposted from the Sheriffhall roundabout. Aproximately 2 miles from roundabout. Bus nos. 29 & 3 from Princes Street.
The Scottish Mining Museum tells the story of the mining industry's history from before the Jurassic times through to the present day.
This 5 star attraction will take you on a trip through the highs and lows of an industry that was once the backbone of Scotland. Experience it all with magic helmets, film theatres, interactives, exhibitions, a coal face, an Operations Centre and the largest winding engine in Scotland. Meet our guides who were all miners and have some fascinating stories to tell. There is a gift shop and Coffee Shop, with children's Play Area. The museum also caters for functions and conferences. We can host all types of events from children's birthday parties to product launches. Contact the museum for more details.
